Our bodies are designed to use all of our adult teeth. They serve many more functions than just helping you chew your food. They also help preserve your jawbone, and believe it or not, they promote a youthful appearance by supporting facial structure. When you’re missing most or all of your teeth, the jawbone begins to degenerate. Your nose may appear to droop. Your cheeks and lips will take on a sunken appearance. Your chin will appear to jut out farther than it should. Missing teeth also can eat away at your confidence and self-esteem.
Davie dentist Dr. Jenny Bello helps ensure her patients are comfortable smiling broadly and proudly by offering restorative dentistry. This is the term used to describe dental management of tooth-related diseases and supporting structures. Restorative dentistry addresses the look and function of your teeth through partial or full mouth rehabilitation.
Treatments included under the restorative dentistry umbrella are:
Placement and restoration of dental implants
We will work hand-in-hand with our oral surgeon to ensure proper placement of your implant. Once the implant has integrated itself into your healthy jawbone, we restore it by placing a porcelain crown on it. An implant is just an anchor to serve the role of a tooth root. We then restore the implant by placing a crown that looks, acts and feels like a natural tooth.
A bridge fills the gap created when you have one or more missing teeth adjacent to each other. We cement the bridge to healthy natural teeth or dental implants on either side of the gap.
Dentures are a solution when you are missing all of your teeth in your upper or lower jaw, or both. Implant-supported dentures are a great option that provides a more secure teeth replacement solution. They are secured in place by implants with attachments made for the denture to snap into. Implant-supported dentures are ideal for the lower jaw, because traditional dentures tend to be less stable in the lower jaw.
Fillings that are the color of your natural teeth blend in beautifully and make your smile look natural.
The bottom line when it comes to restorative dentistry is that we are on a mission to preserve your natural teeth. But when that isn’t possible, we want to do everything possible to help you maintain form and function so you can continue to speak and chew properly. Our goal is to keep your smile looking great and functioning in a healthy manner.
Sedation During Treatment
Restorative dentistry often involves a lengthy treatment, or performing more than one treatment during a single office visit. For that reason, we offer a couple of sedative options for our patients. Nitrous oxide is available, as well as oral sedatives that can be prescribed for you to take prior to your appointment.
Sedatives also help fearful patients get through much-needed treatments. If you have dental anxieties, please ask us about sedation options, and we’ll be happy to offer a recommendation.
Please call us today if you would like to schedule a consultation to see how we can restore your smile to a youthful luster.
