
Home Maintenance for Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a gum disease that is painfully common among even those who take substantial care of their oral health. While there are several over the counter options, there are different remedies available for home maintenance for gingivitis.
Symptoms of Gingivitis
Basic symptoms of gingivitis are irritation and inflammation of the gums, inordinate puffing of the gums and redness. For some, these symptoms may be accompanied by bad breath, bleeding gums, loss of teeth and the like.
Basic triggering factors of gingivitis are excessive smoking, reaction to medication, pregnancy, genetic tendency and others like dry mouth, crooked teeth. Thus, even when it is not in its chronic stage, gingivitis can be a very painful condition.
Home Maintenance for Gingivitis
Immaculate oral hygiene is hands down the best method to prevent gingivitis. However, if you do develop this dental condition, it is best to use some home remedies to combat the gingivitis effectively.
Salt
Salt has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and use it to rinse your mouth regularly. It will soothe the swollen gums. Continue the process till the gingivitis does not subside.
Another method that you could try is to combine salt with mustard oil and make a paste out of it. Massage this paste on the gums for a couple of minutes and then gargle with warm water to rinse it out. Repeat this procedure at least 2 times a day to alleviate the swelling and the pain of gingivitis.
Turmeric
Turmeric can effectively combat plaque build-up in addition to being anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. To the above paste of mustard oil and salt, add some turmeric and massage your gums twice a day.
Alternatively, mix a little turmeric with vitamin E oil and apply it on the teeth and gums and rinse it with warm water.
You can also make a simple paste of turmeric and water and use a soft toothbrush to brush it on your teeth. Do this procedure at least twice a day for best results.
Oil Pulling
This technique is a popular ayurvedic remedy for gingivitis. All you have to do is put a teaspoon of sesame oil or coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around. After that spit it out and rinse your mouth with warm water. Do this every morning.
Lemon Juice
Use lemon juice in a glass of water as a mouthwash after regular brushing. Alternatively, use it to make a paste with salt to apply on the gums and then rinse with warm water after two minutes.
Gingivitis is as common as a cold, and instead of filling up on over the counter painkillers, it is better to go for these natural home remedy to maintain oral health and to deaden the condition of gingivitis, and see your Dentist.
